A climate that runs the heat more than the AC
San Mateo and Foster City sit on the bay side of the Peninsula. Mornings are cool and often foggy, afternoons are breezy, and truly hot days are few. The furnace or heat pump works for much of the year, so heating is the bigger share of our calls. Air conditioning came late to many homes here: owners added it after a heat wave, often as a heat pump or ductless mini-split that also heats.
Over the hills on Highway 92, Half Moon Bay is cool and damp most of the year. Heating matters far more than cooling there, and salt air corrodes outdoor coils, fins and cabinets faster than on the bay side.

The homes we see
San Mateo has older homes from the 1920s to the 1950s with wall and floor furnaces, older forced-air systems and tight crawlspaces, along with mid-century tract homes and many condos and apartments downtown. Foster City was built on filled land in the 1960s and 1970s; its homes, townhomes and condos often keep the furnace or air handler in a compact closet, with ducts in the attic or between floors. - Diagnosis. A trained technician tests before replacing anything and explains what failed and why.
- A clear quote. You see the price and your options before any work begins.
- The work. Repairs follow manufacturer-spec procedures with OEM parts when available, and the system is run and checked before we leave. We clean up after the work, and if something is not right, we will work to make it right.
